A-Line E.D.S. Makes Transformer Recycling Easy

The transformer recycling industry is always changing and presents many challenges to be successful.  Transformer teardown projects are like snowflakes, not one of them is alike. The markets change, the times change, the customer requirements change, and the environmental regulations change among many other factors. This can, at times, make our job very hectic and stressful and requires us to be extremely flexible, on top of our service and ready to execute a project at the drop of a hat.

There is one thing that doesn’t change and that is the quality of our crews that travel day in and day out to represent our company to our customers. The safe operations of our crews, skilled work and the efficiency in which they complete a transformer teardown is what keeps us going strong through all of the changes. They make transformer removal projects easy for our customers. We pride ourselves on being the no-hassle transformer recycling service everyone desires.

Here are just a few large transformer projects that showcase our capabilities and how we make projects easy for our customers.

3 Transformers

908,400 lbs.

5 guys

9 days

This was a time sensitive project as the retired transformers had to be removed in order for the replacement transformers to be set in place.  This customer was wise in avoiding relocation costs, knowing that they could be recycled in place. A-Line E.D.S. has proven time and time again that we can complete these transformer recycling projects safely and efficiently.

As the firewalls were being taken down, the auxiliary transformer components were removed and the tanks were prepped for removal of the top sections.

The transformer core steel was then removed and the windings were prepped for removal and load out.

Sometimes the guys like to get professional pictures taken in these giant transformers, or at least pretend they are… The shear size of these transformer windings showcase what skill and coordination have to be mastered to send out over 900,000 lbs. in 9 days.

After the transformers were completely removed preparation of the pads was beginning to take place even before we left.

Here is another beast we completed- totaling over 550,000 lbs. This transformer had a bushing failure which resulted in a transformer fire. This transformer was located on a property owned by multiple utilities making it a high profile project for all involved. A-Line took extra precaution during the teardown to make sure the unit did not reignite.

The transformer was relocated for better access and the teardown and recycling process began.

A-Line keeps an organized, clean and safe site at all times during the transformer removal process.

This transformer teardown took about 7 days and we left the site cleaner than when we arrived.

This next project had 3 transformers that were failed totaling over 1.6 million pounds. The original anticipated timeframe for completion was 6 weeks based on a competitor’s estimate, which required the customer to hire project oversight for the duration of the transformer removal.

These transformers were removed utilizing only cold cut methods as required by this particular customer. A-Line completed the removal of these transformers in 14 days saving our customer thousands in project oversight and minimizing their risk of having a contractor on site for an unecessary amount of time.

Transformer teardowns aren’t easy. They take a skilled crew with the methods and tools necessary to complete the job safely and efficiently. A-Line’s crews and dedication to service make transformer recycling projects easy and quick for our customers. When others say it can’t be done, we say it can.
